Bat-like Things
circa 1986

It's a sunny summer day, and I'm riding over a grassy hill on my dirt bike with several of my other elementary-school-aged friends. Quite some distance away, at the bottom of the hill and at the edge of some trees, is a cottage with smoke drifting out from it. The sky suddenly goes dark and we all ride to the cottage in haste. It is soon evident that the darkness has been caused by flocks of bat-like things, blocking out the skies. They fall from the sky, crashing into everything. Covering our heads and barging into the cottage, we see two old people sitting in chairs, calmly rocking and saying something about the end of the world. The bat-things are crashing through the roof and smashing furniture about in their linear descent. At this point we realize there is no escape, so we go back outside, only to see some other kids riding over the hill on our bikes! We cry out in frustration.
